"Rockers DAVID BOWIE, THE CLASH, NIRVANA and THE SEX PISTOLS are among a host of stars who will be remembered in the first major sale of punk-rock memorabilia later this year (08). Christie's auction house has put together a collection of classic items, including signed publicity photos, posters and clothing from the height of the punk movement in the 1970s. A Sex Pistols press kit from 1977 is expected to bring the highest price at about $6,000 (GBP3,739). A spokesperson for Christie's tells the New York Post, "These were kids, and kind of snotty kids at that. For them to be signing publicity shoots is quite rare." He says the collection "basically tells the history of the whole punk era and... people who were influenced by the punk era. It has all the great names, from (David) Bowie to Lou Reed to Patti Smith to the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, all the way to Nirvana, which is obviously an outgrowth."
The auction will take place in New York at 24th November.
German artist Natascha Stellmach claims to be in possession of Kurt Cobain's ashes, which she says she will smoke as the finale to her exhibition.
It was reported last June that the NIRVANA frontman's ashes were stolen from Courtney Love's home in Los Angeles.
Stellmach's five part exhibition is entitled Set Me Free, with a final act which she claims "will release Cobain from the media circus and into the ether", reports Uncut.
When she was asked how she came to acquire the ashes, she said: "That's confidential and kind of magic. They came to me. And I am setting him free."
The artist intends to smoke a joint which she claims contains Cobain's remains in the final act of her work entitled Gone.
According to Artworld, the smoking – which will take place at a secret Berlin location - "represents both the completion of the conceptual project and the final act in an exhibition bound to provoke wide public debate".
Only 24 days to official premiere of latest Charles R. Cross's book "Cobain Unseen. At 27th of October we will see his second, after Heavier Than Heaven: The Biography of Kurt Cobain, book about Kurt Cobain.
At www.hachettebookgroupusa.com we found this description:
"An unparalleled look inside the brilliant mind of one of America's most revered rock legends, Cobain Unseen collects previously unseen artifacts and photographs from the estate's archives to form a fascinating portrait of the creativity, madness, and genius of Kurt Cobain. Personal items and photographs take readers deeper inside Cobain's life than they've ever been before, and interactive features, such as Kurt's handwritten sticker-sheet of Nirvana name tags, facsimiles of unseen journal pages, and gatefolds of his graffiti-embellished guitars make this an essential keepsake. An audio CD showcasing spoken-word material by Cobain, some of it never before released, will be included. Accompanying the previously unpublished images and memorabilia is a compelling biographical narrative by New York Times-bestselling author Charles R. Cross. "
Another way to make money or good book about Kurt. We will see.
